For people suffering from herniated or bulging discs, degenerative disc disease, facet syndrome, sciatica, back pain, neck pain, or failed back or neck surgery, there is a non-surgical solution!

Back pain is the second most common medical complaint in North America, affecting 80 percent of the population at one time or another. Often, back problems cause a permanent loss of function, which may force those suffering to give up activities they love. In many cases, even simple activities may become impossible to perform.

How can I relieve my lower back pain?

Many options involve surgery, spinal injections, and heavy drug therapy. The complications from back surgery can be severe and may result in permanent debilitating conditions. Additionally, surgery can be extremely expensive and require a long recovery period, lasting several months. Pain medications can make it difficult to carry on with normal day-to-day activities. Many patients who elect for surgery will have another surgery within three to four years. For patients with a history of back pain and who are currently experiencing symptoms that are interfering with activities, the first step is proper evaluation and diagnostic testing to determine the cause of the symptoms and the severity of the problem.

Now there is a new option: The DRS Protocol. This innovative approach to relieve lower back and neck pain is non-surgical, non-invasive, and does not involve pain medications. The treatment is not only safe and effective, but also comfortable and relaxing.

The DRS Protocol Decompression, Reduction and Stabilization treatment reduces pressure to the injured disc levels. During treatment, intradiscal pressure is dropped from a positive to a negative. This pressure change promotes the intake of water, oxygen, and nutrients into the vertebral disc area, thereby rehydrating the injured discs.

The DRS Protocol utilizes a computer directed method of applying and achieving physical therapy treatment objectives without requiring the patient to participate in any exhaustive or painful exercises. Performed by a certified clinician, the DRS machine gently manipulates the offending spinal segments, while helping stretch and re-tone underlying musculature. The result is improved spinal health and pain elimination in a significant amount of patients treated.

In other words, the DRS treatment reduces pressure inside of the disc. This reduces the painful herniation and the pain from other disc-related degenerative conditions. The pressure reduction results in increased blood flow to the injured area, reduction of pain, increased mobility and tissue repair.

What are common causes and diagnoses of lower back pain?
A herniated disc is a common cause of severe lower back pain and sciatica. The discs are the soft, flexible “shock absorbers” that separate each of the vertebrae in the spine. These discs have a rigid outside rim, but are soft and gel-like inside. Activity, stress, or mechanical problems in the spine can cause one or more of the spinal discs to bulge or become herniated. A disc becomes herniated when it degenerates to the point that the gelatin within the disc protrudes outward. Classic lower back pain or sciatica occurs if this material extrudes or bulges far enough to press against a nerve root.

Degenerative Disc Disease is a major cause of chronic lower back and neck pain. Because the discs in the spine do not have a dedicated blood supply, the discs must rely on a process called “diffusion” to receive their nutrient supply of water, nutrients, and oxygen. If the flow of these elements is disrupted, the vertebral discs will degenerate. This degeneration can cause spinal structures to impede on nerve roots, thereby causing pain.

Facet Syndrome occurs when the facet joints or interlocking joints wear down. In such cases, a nerve can become encroached and cause pain.
Sciatica refers to a pain felt along the length of the sciatic nerve. The pain is often felt in the buttocks where it radiates down the back of the leg. Sciatic pain can extend down to the foot and toes in severe cases.

Until now, if you suffered from neck or lower back pain, methods of treatment have been: bed rest, muscle relaxers, pain medications, spinal adjustments, spinal injections, and if all else failed; surgery. Now you have a better option: The DRS Protocol. No surgery, no injections, and, for the majority of patients, no more back pain!

Dr. Auth is excited to enjoy his active lifestyle again and help as many patients as he possibly can. He hopes to reach out to those who su er from back pain and aren’t aware of the DRS Protocol, he remarks, “I want to help as many patients as possible avoid painful and complex surgeries.” (970) 262-7929
